88% NIGERIAN SMARTPHONE USERS NOW USE FINTECH APPS – REPORT

Reloaded News Desk

Banking and fintech applications have reached 88 per cent of smartphone users in Nigeria, highlighting the accelerating shift toward digital financial services, according to a new Nigeria Smartphone Study by KPMG and Orange Group.

The study, based on 13,251 respondents across 12 major Nigerian cities, found that smartphone penetration increased to 75 per cent in 2025 from 64 per cent in 2023.

OPay was used by 69 per cent of respondents, while PalmPay recorded 29 per cent, placing digital financial platforms among the country’s most widely used smartphone services.

The report also found that Android accounted for 88 per cent of smartphones in the study, while iOS represented 13 per cent.

The figures point to the expanding importance of mobile technology in Nigeria’s financial system, where payments, transfers and other banking services are increasingly conducted through smartphones.

The 88 per cent figure, however, relates to the study’s smartphone-user sample and should not be interpreted as 88 per cent of Nigeria’s entire population.
