Politics is about winning elections. Representation begins after the votes have been counted.
For Osun Central, the 2027 senatorial election presents an opportunity to ask a more important question: what kind of representation does the district need in the next Senate?
Yes, Osun Central has had several Senators but elections are also about choices.
And the emergence of Kunle Adegoke, SAN; K-RAD presents Osun Central with a distinctly different proposition.
The Senate is not simply another political office.
It is where laws are made, national policies are debated, government actions are scrutinised and constitutional questions affecting millions of Nigerians are considered.
That makes legislative competence essential and this is where K-RAD’s professional background becomes particularly relevant.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, constitutional lawyer and human-rights advocate, Adegoke has spent years dealing with laws, constitutional questions, election litigation, public-interest advocacy and the workings of democratic institutions.
In 2026, the Georgia House of Representatives honoured him for contributions to the legal profession, human rights advocacy and democratic governance, following the adoption of Resolution 1449.
The honour automatically presents as a better legislator in making, because his professional experience gives him a foundation directly connected to the core business of the Senate; legislation, constitutional interpretation, institutional accountability and public interest.
The Difference K-RAD Brings
There has been several Senators from Osun Central but K-RAD is asking Osun Central for the opportunity to bring a different professional orientation to the Red Chamber, that difference matters a lot. Osun Central needs to choose a representative whose professional career has been substantially built around the law and constitutional advocacy.
Adegoke’s case is therefore not simply that he is a SAN, No, the argument is that his legal training and experience can be converted into stronger legislative scrutiny, better understanding of complex bills, more informed constitutional debate and more rigorous oversight.
But that great opportunity must come with accountability, when elected, K-RAD will be judged by the quality of the laws he sponsors, quality of the debates he contributes to, quality of the policies he influences, quality of the federal institutions he engages and the tangible interests he advances for Osun Central.
Kunle Adegoke’s intention is not to just occupy a seat at the Red chamber. There is a difference between being a senator and being an effective legislator.
A senator can occupy a seat, a legislator must understand the substance of legislation.
A senator can make speeches, a legislator must understand how words written into law affect citizens.
A senator can participate in political activities, a legislator must scrutinise government, question policy and protect the constitutional interests of the people.
That is the standard Osun Central should demand now in this century.
Nigeria’s next National Assembly will confront difficult questions involving taxation, economic reforms, security, constitutional development, electoral reform, federalism and institutional accountability.
These matters require representatives who are prepared to study, interrogate, debate and legislate.
K-RAD’s professional background gives him a strong basis from which to undertake that responsibility.
Osun Central Deserves More
The argument for Kunle Adegoke is not that he deserves the Senate merely because he is a Senior Advocate, it is that Osun Central deserves to put professional competence at the centre of its choice.
His legal career gives him the tools. His political experience gives him an understanding of the terrain. His public-interest work gives him exposure to issues beyond partisan politics.
The task is now to convert those qualities into results, that is what the people should demand, not noise, not posters, not political theatrics, but Capacity. Competence. Influence. Results.
In 2027, Osun Central should not settle for merely having another senator in Abuja, it should demand a representative capable of understanding the business of legislation and using the power of the Senate for the advancement of the people.
Hence, Osun Central does not need just another senator, it needs a legislator.
And Kunle Adegoke, SAN, has the professional foundation to make that proposition worth taking seriously.
Comrade Adeboye Adebayo is an APC Chieftain from Osun State.
