The Federal Government has begun fresh efforts to resolve about ₦330 billion in outstanding claims under the Export Expansion Grant scheme. The Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC, is coordinating the process with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Export Group and other stakeholders.
NEPC Executive Director, Nonye Ayeni, disclosed this at a stakeholder engagement on the Export Expansion Grant scheme in Abuja.
She said the discussions were aimed at addressing outstanding liabilities, examining challenges affecting the scheme and developing recommendations for restructuring it.
The review follows a directive from the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole.
The government is seeking to strengthen non-oil exports and restore confidence in incentives available to Nigerian exporters.
The Export Expansion Grant was introduced to support exporters and improve the competitiveness of Nigerian products in international markets.
The latest engagement is expected to produce recommendations on how outstanding obligations can be addressed and how the scheme can operate on a more sustainable basis.
