Reloaded News Desk

MTN Nigeria generated about ₦3 trillion in revenue in the first six months of 2026, with data services emerging as the company’s biggest revenue driver after generating ₦1.699 trillion during the period.

The telecommunications giant’s half-year financial results showed that data revenue increased by about 38.3 per cent, from ₦1.229 trillion in the corresponding period of 2025 to ₦1.699 trillion in the first half of 2026.

Voice services generated another ₦897.14 billion, while SMS contributed ₦112.68 billion during the six-month period.

Overall, MTN Nigeria’s revenue rose to approximately ₦3 trillion, compared with about ₦2.38 trillion recorded in the first half of 2025.

The company also reported ₦1.7 trillion in EBITDA, while profit after tax rose by 70.6 per cent to ₦707.5 billion.

MTN Nigeria’s subscriber base increased by 8.9 per cent to 92.2 million, while active data users rose by 9.3 per cent to 55.7 million.

The figures underline the growing importance of mobile internet to Nigerians, with data now generating substantially more revenue for MTN than traditional voice calls.

The surge in data revenue reflects Nigerians’ increasing dependence on mobile internet for communication, business, financial transactions, education, entertainment and other everyday activities.

At the same time, the figures highlight the growing amount Nigerians spend to remain connected, coming amid increased telecommunications tariffs and wider pressure on household incomes.

For MTN Nigeria, the results point to strong growth in its data business and overall revenue.

For consumers, they offer another indication of how central and increasingly costly telecommunications services have become to everyday life in Nigeria.
