WHO FINDS UNEVEN PROGRESS ON PATIENT SAFETY ACROSS AFRICA

By Reloaded News Africa Desk

The World Health Organisation has reported uneven progress in patient safety across Africa as countries respond to the growing health burden of noncommunicable diseases.

The WHO African Region said a regional survey found differences in how countries are developing systems to protect patients from avoidable harm.

The organisation has placed particular attention on people living with chronic conditions, who often require repeated and prolonged interaction with healthcare systems.

WHO has also identified dementia as an increasingly important public-health challenge in Africa, estimating that about 1.9 million people currently live with the condition across the region.

The findings underline the need for health systems across the continent to strengthen patient safety alongside efforts to expand access to care.
