Court Remands Adeyemi Over Alleged Fake Presidential Agency

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Adeniyi Adeyemi in the Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, impersonation and conspiracy.
Justice Mohammed Umar made the order on Wednesday after Adeyemi was arraigned following the Federal Government’s takeover of the case.
Adeyemi is accused of presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the prosecution says was not a legally established government agency.
The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was originally filed by the police on November 27, 2025, against Adeyemi and two other suspects who are still at large.
The prosecution alleges that the defendants conspired to forge presidential appointment letters, State House documents and other official correspondence between 2024 and 2025.
One of the allegations concerns an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the then Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Adeyemi is also accused of allegedly forging presidential letterhead and documents relating to requests for government collaboration, land allocation, office accommodation, staff accounts and the purported take-off of the PFIPC.
Another count alleges that he falsely represented himself as Director-General of the purported council.
Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all eight counts, putting the prosecution to the proof of its allegations.
Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, urged the court to remand him, citing circumstances surrounding his conduct before his arrest and arraignment.
Defence counsel, Genesis Francis, told the court that Adeyemi had filed a bail application and that the application had already been served on the prosecution.
The judge subsequently ordered Adeyemi’s remand in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 12, 2026, for trial and hearing of the bail application.
The remand followed a series of earlier developments in the case.
In July, Justice Umar had issued a warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment. He was subsequently arrested in Osun State and brought back into custody.
The prosecution has listed the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, among its proposed witnesses, alongside officials and other individuals allegedly connected to the activities of the purported agency.
Documents listed by the prosecution include a police investigation report, a petition by Gbajabiamila, the alleged presidential appointment letter, correspondence with government ministries and agencies, documents relating to proposed bank accounts and requests concerning office accommodation and land.
Adeyemi has previously disputed the government’s position on the PFIPC and has maintained that the organisation was legitimate.
The latest court proceedings therefore concern allegations yet to be proved at trial. His not-guilty plea means the prosecution must establish the charges against him in accordance with the law.
The next significant stage in the case is the October 12 hearing, when the court is expected to consider his bail application alongside further proceedings in the criminal trial.
