Comrade Adeboye Adebayo has said Osun Central needs a senator capable of effectively representing the district at the national level, arguing that the choice of Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (KRAD) for the 2027 election should be viewed against the wider need for capable representation in Abuja.
Adebayo stated this during a radio programme on Saalim FM 92.3, Ikirun, where he spoke on the forthcoming National Assembly election, the APC’s experience in the last governorship election and the qualities he believes Osun Central should look for in its next senator.
He said the internal disagreements that affected the APC during the governorship election had provided important lessons for the party’s leadership.
According to him, party leaders have learnt from the mistakes of the past and are working to ensure that internal challenges do not undermine the party’s chances in the National Assembly elections.
Adebayo said the responsibility of a senator was fundamentally different from that of a governor, stressing that effective representation in the Senate requires legislative work, advocacy, lobbying and sustained interaction with government institutions and other stakeholders.
He explained that while a governor has executive authority and receives statutory allocations to administer a state, a senator must work through legislation, oversight, advocacy and strategic engagement to attract opportunities and development interventions to constituents.
He therefore urged voters in Osun Central to pay attention to the competence and capacity of whoever they send to Abuja.
Adebayo said he expects representation under KRAD to pursue opportunities capable of attracting investments and infrastructure to the district, while also advancing skills training and access to credit for women and other groups.
He described KRAD as the type of candidate political parties should be willing to recruit when the objective is to put competence and capacity at the centre of political representation.
Adegoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, emerged as the APC’s candidate for Osun Central after winning the party’s senatorial primary in May 2026. He defeated the incumbent Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi in the primary.
Adebayo also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying he believed Nigeria needed continuity with the President based on his assessment of the administration’s ongoing programmes and reforms.
Tinubu was formally nominated by the APC as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election in May 2026.
