Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for repeatedly referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu simply as “Bola” during a press conference in Abuja.
Keyamo said the manner of address was disrespectful and argued that political disagreements should not diminish the dignity attached to the office of the President.
The minister made the remarks in a post on his official X account on Saturday, in reaction to Atiku’s comments during his Friday press conference.
Keyamo also questioned Atiku’s tone, saying the former vice-president’s remarks reflected personal grievance.
He further referred to Atiku’s recent comments about Tinubu’s age, arguing that it was inconsistent for Atiku to describe Tinubu as older than himself while addressing him only by his first name.
Atiku had used his press conference to call on the Tinubu administration to take measures to reduce petrol and electricity costs and ease pressure on households, workers and businesses.
The former vice-president said the President could adopt his proposal for government intervention on petrol prices, rename it and take the credit if it would result in Nigerians paying less.
The exchange comes as political parties and presidential contenders intensify their public positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
