South Africans have gathered to mourn and demand action after the bodies of nine women were discovered in Ekurhuleni, near Johannesburg.
The victims, most of them in their 20s and 30s, showed signs of sexual assault, according to reports.
Authorities are investigating the killings and have not established whether the deaths are connected.
The discoveries have renewed public concern over gender-based violence in South Africa, where activists and families have continued to demand stronger action to protect women.
A memorial run was held in Johannesburg in honour of victims, including Elizabeth Moselakgomo, who was killed while jogging.
Participants dressed in black and carried messages demanding an end to femicide.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged thorough investigations into the killings.
Activists, however, continue to call for stronger structural measures to address violence against women and girls.
