The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of arrests, rescues and security operations across several states, including the rescue of seven people intercepted by suspected bandits in Katsina and the arrest of suspected criminals in connection with killings, kidnapping, cult activities and firearm offences.
In Katsina State, police said officers on September 21 repelled armed bandits who intercepted a vehicle carrying six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma along the Kankara-Dutsin-Ma Road.
The police said all seven occupants were rescued unhurt after the attackers were forced to flee into the bush with gunshot injuries. The rescued victims were medically evaluated and reunited with the relevant authorities.
In Benue State, police said joint tactical forces responded to an armed bandit attack at Abeda Market in Logo Local Government Area on September 22. One suspected bandit was killed while two others were arrested. The police said no officer was killed in the operation.
In Anambra State, four suspects were arrested during a patrol operation in Okija Community. The police said the suspects admitted belonging to an outlawed terrorist group and were assisting investigators with information. Three other suspects were separately arrested over the death of a 34-year-old man at Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area. The victim’s remains were recovered and deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
The Force also reported the arrest of a principal suspect in the suspected murder of a 22-year-old woman in Cross River State, while police in Oyo State arrested a suspect over the death of a 30-year-old man at Iwere-Ile.
In Nasarawa State, a suspected kidnapper was handed over to police following a citizens’ arrest. Police said the suspect admitted involvement in several kidnapping incidents and is assisting the investigation.
Katsina police also reported the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to a bandit syndicate after an attempted escape was foiled.
Other operations included the arrest of a suspected illegal firearm holder in Delta State, where police recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun and a live cartridge.
In Ekiti State, four suspected cult members were arrested in connection with an attack and alleged malicious damage of property in Ikere-Ekiti.
Police in Kogi State recovered a motorcycle allegedly stolen during an armed robbery, while officers in Ogun State arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged defilement case and took the victim to a medical facility for examination.
In Lagos, police arrested a truck driver following a fatal road traffic incident at Tin Can Island. The vehicle was impounded for inspection and further investigation.
The Nigeria Police Force said the cases were being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
