The Federal Government has renewed its focus on patient safety, particularly for Nigerians living with noncommunicable diseases.
Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate made the commitment during Nigeria’s commemoration of World Patient Safety Day 2026 in Abuja.
This year’s global observance focuses on safe care for noncommunicable diseases under the theme “Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases” and the slogan “Safe care for life!”
The Federal Ministry of Health said cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases remain major health challenges requiring prolonged interaction with healthcare systems.
The government said it is strengthening clinical governance and patient-safety systems across health institutions to reduce avoidable harm and improve the quality and coordination of care.
