Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Nigeria for New York to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Shettima is leading a delegation that includes Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, ministers and other senior government officials.
The UN General Debate begins on Tuesday, September 22, and runs through September 28 under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate, presenting the country’s positions on national development, peace and security, economic growth and international cooperation.
He is also scheduled to participate in high-level meetings on issues including the right to development and climate action, while holding bilateral engagements with foreign leaders, international organisations and development partners.
The Federal Government said the engagements will also be used to advance Nigeria’s economic diplomacy and strengthen the country’s position on issues including global financial reform, sustainable development and climate finance.
