President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Senator Babajide Christopher Omoworare to the reconstituted All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as Deputy Coordinator II, South-West Parliamentary Mobilisation (Senate), placing him among the political figures assigned responsibilities in the ruling party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.
Omoworare’s appointment is contained in the updated membership list of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council released on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The council is chaired by Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, serving as first and second vice-chairmen respectively.
The former lawmaker’s role falls under the council’s Directorate of Parliamentary Mobilisation, which is responsible for coordinating political engagement and mobilisation involving members of the National Assembly.
His specific assignment places him within the South-West Senate mobilisation structure, where Senator Yunus Akintunde Abiodun is listed as coordinator, while Senator Cyril Fasuyi serves as Deputy Coordinator I. Babajide Omoworare is listed as Deputy Coordinator II, with Senator Shuaibu Salisu Afolabi serving as secretary.
The appointment brings the former senator into a strategic segment of the campaign organisation as the APC begins preparations for another presidential contest.
Omoworare represented Osun East Senatorial District in the Senate from 2011 to 2019. Before his election to the National Assembly, he served in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, where he rose to become Majority Leader.
His political career has included legislative responsibilities at both state and federal levels, as well as a period in the Presidency. In 2019, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, a position he held until 2023.
His experience in the legislature and his subsequent work in the Presidency provide relevant background to his new assignment in parliamentary mobilisation, a function that requires engagement with lawmakers and political stakeholders across the region.
The South-West remains an important political arena for the APC, which has its strongest historical organisational base in the region. The campaign council’s parliamentary structure provides a framework for coordinating engagement with senators and other legislative stakeholders as the party prepares for the next election cycle.
Omoworare’s appointment is part of a wider restructuring of the presidential campaign organisation. The updated list places Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serving as secretary. APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru is listed as deputy secretary, while Hadiza Bala Usman is assistant secretary.
The council also includes senior party officials, serving and former lawmakers, state governors, ministers and other political figures assigned to various directorates and campaign responsibilities.
Among the key appointments, Senator Adams Oshiomhole is listed as Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Bello Masari heads parliamentary mobilisation at the director-general level, while James Abiodun Faleke is responsible for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
The updated structure also assigns campaign coordination responsibilities across the six geopolitical zones and individual states.
In a notable feature of the revised list, several serving governors who do not belong to the APC have also been named to campaign coordination positions. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who belongs to the Accord Party, is listed as coordinator for Osun State; Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance is named coordinator for Anambra; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is assigned coordination responsibilities for Rivers State and the FCT.
Omoworare’s inclusion is also relevant to political developments in Osun State, where the APC is organising ahead of the 2027 presidential election following the state’s 2026 governorship contest.
The former senator has remained active in the state’s political landscape and has previously expressed interest in contesting the APC governorship ticket. His new role is specifically within the presidential campaign council’s South-West Senate mobilisation structure and his responsibilities will be carried out within a regional framework involving other lawmakers and political stakeholders.
For the APC, the reconstituted council provides an organisational framework for the presidential campaign. For Omoworare, the appointment adds a national campaign responsibility to a political career spanning the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Senate and the Presidency.
The updated campaign council is expected to be inaugurated at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The coming months will show how the expanded structure operates as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 general election.
