Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has disowned a letter circulating online in his name and purportedly addressed to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe.

Obi said on Saturday that the document was fake and that the signature attached to it had been forged.

The purported letter addressed political and financial issues in Anambra State and was presented as a communication from Obi to the traditional ruler.

Obi urged members of the public to disregard the document, saying it was designed to mislead them.

The development comes amid ongoing political disagreements over claims concerning Anambra State’s finances during Obi’s tenure as governor and the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Obi has previously disputed claims concerning outstanding financial obligations allegedly inherited by the state.
